Looking To God In The Wilderness

“Get out!” Pharaoh ordered. “Leave my people- and take the rest of the Israelites with you! Go and worship the Lord as you have requested.”
~ Exodus 12: 31

Finally, Pharaoh gave up. In this moment we see him demanding that Moses take the Israelites out of Egypt but it didn’t come easy. Right before this verse the land of Egypt went through 8 different plagues; one of blood, frogs, gnats, flies, livestock, festering boils, hail, and locusts.

On top of that the Egyptians endured the deaths of all the first born males and it was all because of one man who refused to submit to God’s authority. As the Egyptians packed only the necessities I can only imagine the fear they must have felt and the many questions that must have running through their minds.

What will happen to me in the wilderness?
Will I survive?
Where are we even going?

They had been in captivity for so long. Could there really be a light at the end of the tunnel? For forty years as they wandered in the wilderness after this, I bet they asked God that same thing every single day.

Life is full of wilderness moments. We get confused, suffer hardship, and sometimes the only thing that gets us up in the morning is the assurance, that even though we can’t see it God is leading us to our promised land (at least it’s that way for me).

Exodus 12: 36 says, “The Lord caused the Egyptians to look favorably on the Israelites.” After all, that is how they got out and managed to get everything they needed for their long journey ahead.

God is looking at our situation right now and although it may not be going our way, it’s going His way.

Are you going through a wilderness moment? Are you confused and uncertain of your future? I am too.

Can I tell you a little secret? The land overflowing with milk and honey isn’t a story just to make us feel better.. It’s real and in God’s time, WE WILL arrive there. I am holding on to that promise in the wilderness season I am in and my prayer is that you do as well.

Is there anything I can pray for, regarding your wilderness moment this week? Feel free to comment below and I will add it to my prayer list.

Thank you, Lovelle. Yes, there are so many weary wilderness moments. I, too, hold onto that promise of the Promised Land. Sometimes my heart longs so much to be with Jesus forever. I guess God isn’t done with us yet, right? I love how He is using you to encourage others who are hurting. Blessings and hugs to you!

I am praying that I will see the results of my speaking against injustice with regards to a neighbor’s neglect of his dogs, and that the people who are Christians and witnessing the neglect would not be afraid to speak against the injustice. I pray that it not be my will(which is difficult for me to accept) but the will of the Father.

Please pray that I not have a divided mind during this trial and surrender to the will of the Father.

    Thanks for your blog!

I struggle with severe depression. I’ve been in a battle with this disease for almost 2 decades. I hate this wilderness experience. I’m currently hospitalized due the severity of it. Just looking for hope – a reason to continue to get up…and to struggle some more. I know there are very great (helpful) people working here…and they will do their best to help me. It seems a never ending battle. So hard to endure. If I’ve gone on too long I apologize. You offered to pray…and prayer is what it will take.
Thank you for your words and for the prayers.

      Lauren,
I can only imagine how hard that must be. I believe whole heartedly that YOU CAN overcome. I’m so proud of you for being bold and seeking help. You are so worth it. God loves you so much and my prayer for you is that He fills you to your fullest with it. You have not gone too long. I am so honored you confided in me. I will add you to my prayer list!

I could use prayer for my life. Just yesterday God used multiple people on staff at my church to talk me through not letting the people in three different situations become my responsibility. I was feeling guilty for all three situations not going well when in each case I was neither the problem nor the solution. I was someone they confided in and I took on those emotions on myself which weighed me down; yet I couldn’t see it. God saw it and sent me help. One person prayed for me and mentioned good things about me I hadn’t realized. That spoke into my loneliness and desire to be married. I know God has a plan that He’s working on; I pray for His will more than anything I could dream of. It’s just not easy righit now and loneliness has set in. I’m trying to thank God today for answers to prayer He’ll provide in His time.
